Thanks for the comment, Penny,

In the MNBC interview Google's CEO bemoans both the problems that they are having accommodating the different screen sizes, and he admits that they are having some difficulties in emerging markets because of the linguistic differences. My bet is that amongst the product roll-offs he says Google has up its sleeve are improvements in their voice recognition for their 411 service. Determining "intent" would seem to be the harder nut to crack.

But if someone's out there with a more naturalistic system for determining voice query intent, Google will either come up with it, or they have the cash in fist (just over US$14B, Schmidt said) to acquire it. Schmidt noted that Google was resisting the pressure for a dividend pay out or stock buyback, essentially, so they have the resources to build or acquire what is needed to move forward with mobile search and other initiatives, like YouTube, which will be their cash cows once they are monetized....Oh yeah....you can bet they're keeping both eyes glued on what Microhoo might be up to.

Love the moniker...Keep stretching Lincoln all you can!

Google is my bet for the next decade's best company. They are way ahead in driving cool ideas while monetizing via ads. But I have an issue with their 411 service. I have to repeat myself over and over. I can get the same free directory assistance by calling 800-411-SAVE and talk with a real person. When will automation close the gap in determining intent or even simple linguistic differences? I would say Google gets about 65% of the requests right, but with several prompts. I have to go with the human touch for now.
